This magically worked for me:
Point your cab or sat remote at the tv/soundbar. With a bose solo soundbar attached via optical to the tv. Your apple tv 4k or apple tv hd should automatically detect the tv or receiver that you plug it into and program your siri remote or apple tv remote 1 to control power and hdmi input. I went into settings to train the siri remote to control my soundbar via ir rather than my tv.
